This is done to assess the child’s development in physical, cognitive and social aspects. The child is evaluated based on their physical and mental factors considering their family and the environment in which they grow. At MDC, pediatric assessment will be conducted by our trained and certified pediatrician Dr. Priyadarshini.
Developmental screening is done to identify problems with respect to the development of the child. Conditions such as Pre-term, Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, neonatal jaundice and all high risk babies admitted in NICU. Children should undergo developmental screening test at once, if they are found to have these defects. Such assessments will be done by a legally certified paediatrician at our center.
A psychological assessment is an evaluation done by a clinical psychologist using a combination of techniques to measure and observe the child’s behaviour in order to arrive at a diagnosis and guide interventions that are tailored to his or her individual needs. Psychological assessments are done only by the clinical psychologist. A Clinical Psychologist is eligible to practice only when they have the Central Rehabilitation Registration (CRR) number given by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). In our center we ensure that we have certified and experienced Clinical Psychologist to meet the assessment needs of the child.
Behaviour modification relies on the concept of conditioning which involves using a system of rewards and/or punishments. It helps in changing the behaviour with methods such as Positive and Negative reinforcement, Flooding, Systematic desensitization, Aversion therapy and Extinction.
Behaviour Modification therapy has been successfully used to treat disorders such as OCD, ADHD, phobias, enuresis (bed-wetting), generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder etc.
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a therapy which aims at improving behaviour that is helpful &constructive and avoiding behaviour that is harmful & destructive. It helps with improving the language & communication skills, attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics. It is prominently used as a form of autism treatment in Children.
CBT is a form of talk therapy that can be applied to help children observe their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It can also be used to help them change their problematic behaviour.
Play therapy can be applied for children from the age groups of 3 to 12. This therapy will be helpful in understanding their thoughts and emotions on which their lives are based on. It is a chance for the child to express their repressed feelings and emotions through play. This service is provided by a competent play therapist trained from the National association of play therapy India.
This therapy applies creative methods like drawing, colouring, painting, etc to help the child express themselves. The therapist understands the psychological aspects through their artistic creation. Art therapy helps in exploring emotions, improving self-esteem, relieving stress, abuse, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with a physical illness or disability.
Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT) helps in dealing with problems related to cognition. It is designed to improve the cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial functioning of the child.
Social skills’ training helps children who are lacking as well as those who are hyper in social behaviour. It aims at developing and maintaining good relationships with others in their social life by helping with their problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, communication and self-management skills. Such psychotherapies can be done only by a trained and certified clinical psychologist. At Milestones developmental center, we have well-trained clinical psychologists to bring out the best in the children.
Speech is found to be one of the direct ways of communication. Speech and language therapy helps children who have trouble with talking, communication, eating, drinking and swallowing. Children who are lagging in communication will be provided with speech therapy by an experienced speech and audio pathologist at MDC, Salem.
Sensory integration is a form of occupational therapy which helps children having sensory dysfunction such as ASD to manage their sensitivities and cravings, along with environmental modifications. This therapy will be provided by a trained Occupational Therapist at our center.
Physiotherapy is a kind of physical therapy which helps to restore function and alleviate pain to lessen the effect of any disease or injury. It also treats paediatric conditions such as developmental delays, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy. Our experienced physiotherapist will help the child by relieving their physical pain and also helping them deal with their physical disability.
Special education is a specially designed instruction in the form of additional support and resources given to meet the unique needs of children with difficulties. Special educators are the ones who had been specially trained to teach children who are lagging in academic skills.
Parents are educated on their child’s disorder and home treatment methods designed exclusively for the child are provided through separate sessions and followed up.
Pre-adoption, Adoption Assessment and Counselling is done to help the prospective adoptive parents and the adopted children get a clear picture of the adoption process and also deal with various problems relating to parenting, acceptance issues among family / friends, communication, etc.
